SORT-CC: A procedure for the statistical treatment of free sorting data

2008

International audience; A statistical approach for the analysis of free sorting data is discussed. In a first stage, the sorting data from each subject are arranged into a dataset consisting of indicator variables which reflect the memberships of the stimuli to the groups formed by the subject under consideration. Thereafter, an appropriate standardization is applied on these data and a three way statistical method, namely Common Components and Specific Weights Analysis, is performed on the datasets thus obtained. This makes it possible to take account of the individual differences among the subjects and to depict graphical displays showing the relationships among the stimuli on the one han…

A three-way perspective of stoichiometric changes on host–parasite interactions

2015

Changes in environmental nutrients play a crucial role in driving disease dynamics, but global patterns in nutrient-driven changes in disease are difficult to predict. In this paper we use ecological stoichiometry as a framework to review host–parasite interactions under changing nutrient ratios, focusing on three pathways: (i) altered host resistance and parasite virulence through host stoichiometry (ii) changed encounter or contact rates at population level, and (iii) changed host community structure. We predict that the outcome of nutrient changes on host–parasite interactions depends on which pathways are modified, and suggest that the outcome of infection could depend on the overlap in…

Identifying three-way DNA junction-specific small-molecules

2012

Three-way junction DNA (TWJ-DNA, also known as 3WJ-DNA) is an alternative secondary DNA structure comprised of three duplex-DNAs that converge towards a single point, termed the branch point. This point is characterized by unique geometrical properties that make its specific targeting by synthetic small-molecules possible. Such a targeting has already been demonstrated in the solid state but not thoroughly biophysically investigated in solution. Herein, a set of simple biophysical assays has been developed to identify TWJ-specific small-molecule ligands; these assays, inspired by the considerable body of work that has been reported to characterize the interactions between small-molecules an…
